Out & About
The GLAS House is located in the small town of Port Orford, Oregon, about 75 minutes north of the California border.
With a population of about 1,200, Port Orford is the oldest town on the Oregon coast and the most westerly in the 48 contiguous states. It is an authentic piece of small-town America with an artistic flair and a unique and welcoming community.
Among some of the amazing excursions within a half-hour drive of the house are: top rated golf courses at Bandon Dunes and throughout the region; kayaks to rent with guided tours of amazing hidden coves and marine animal views; world-class mountain biking trails at Whiskey Creek, other local trails, and along the beaches, with fat tire bikes available for rent from local outfitters; hundreds of miles lightly-trafficked roads following the Elk, Sixes, and Rouge Rives for beautiful drives, picnics, fishing, and/or road biking excursions that connect to remote campgrounds or more trails. And just 1.5 hours away is the Umpqua Valley wine country with world class Oregon wine tasting opportunities.
The highlight of the Oregon coast is the beach, of course, which features breathtaking sunsets.
The coastal landscape transforms from black-sand beaches to rocky outcrops perfect for exploring tidepools.

Garrison Lake is a great option for fishing, kayaking, or just enjoying a tranquil day.

Elk River is another great option for fishing, hiking, or lounging.
The Port Orford Prehistoric Gardens offer an educational, family-friendly excursion into the Jurassic Ages.

There are more hikes in and around Port Orford than you'll ever have time for, with many taking you through old growth forests.

One of our favorite hiking paths takes you through the cliffside overlooking the ocean — we think this one is best during sunset.

The Cape Blanco lighthouse is another wonderful spot to explore!
